Russian Icon of Christ Pantokrator the Teacher
Russian, 19th century. Tempera on wood with silver riza. An icon depicting Christ the Teacher adorned with a raised metal halo against a background incised with vine motifs, with stamped Imperial double-headed eagle and illegible maker's mark, assayer's mark BC / 1878 for Vladimir Stepanovich Smirnov, 84, and Moscow figural mark, all at bottom; 12.25 x 10.5 in. (full size).
Provenance: Property from the Estate of Dr. William Blake Selnick, Cincinnati, OHAuctioneer's note: the riza is NOT silver. It is silver-plated copper.
