Silver gelatin photograph, 10 x 8 in. The Hunting Ground. Scenic view of Piegan Blackfeet Indians mounted on horseback in Montana. Verso double handstamped "Copyright 1912 By Roland W Reed."
Royal W. "Roland" Reed, Jr., (1864-1934) was a prominent early 20th century photographer and Pictorialist. His work emphasized American Indian life as it might have been rather than simply recording it. With his photography, Reed set out to capture and preserve the vanishing life and culture of Indian people.
