- Lot Description
American, ca 1826. A reverse painted portrait on glass of a woman in black with a bonnet and gold chain necklace, identified on verso as Abigail Stetson Sprague (1788-1862), the wife of Captain Oakman Sprague (b. 1786), of Massachusetts. Handwritten note on frame back attributes the painting to William Prior and dates it to 1826. Housed in a lemon gilt frame; 15.5 x 10.25 in. (sight), 19.25 x 14.25 in. (frame).
Provenance: Property from the Collection of Dr. James and Betty Sutherland, Cincinnati, OHPaint loss, particularly to background.Condition
