- Lot Description
Fergusson, James. A Brief Refutation of the Errors of Tolleration, Erastianism, Independency and Separation. Delivered in Some Sermons from 1 Job 4.1, Preach'd in the Year 1652. To which are added four sermons preach'd on several occasions. By Mr. James Fergusson, late minister of the Gospel at Kilwinning. Edinburgh: Printed by George Mosman, 1692. First collected edition. 16mo, originally full leather, 365pp. Missing tp. Page 364 misnumbered 362 (but correct text for 364).
James Ferguson (Fergusson) (1621-1667) was ordained to the ministry at Kilwinning, Ayrshire in 1643 after attending Glasgow University. He declined calls to larger churches, and even after being appointed to the chair of divinity at Glasgow, he never left Kilwinning to serve in that position. He was much admired for his wisdom and piety in his time.
Leather missing from boards. At present the binding is two boards and textblock held together with three rawhide strips. Tp missing. A few holes on first dedication page (no text impacted binding still holding otherwise).Condition
