Reginald Grooms was a Cincinnati native. After studying at the Académie Julian in Paris, he taught landscape painting at the Cincinnati Art Academy as well as painting and drawing at the University of Cincinnati School of Applied Arts, to eventually become the Chairman of the Fine Arts Department and the Arts Division. His work has been exhibited locally, at the Closson Gallery, the Cincinnati Art Museum, and the Cincinnati Art Club (of which he was also a long-term member), and nationally, at the Charles Morgan Gallery in New York. He is mostly known for his marine paintings, though, as the variety of works offered in this auction suggests, he was a rather versatile artist.
