Lithographed poster, 24.75 x 38.5, framed, 27 x 40 in. A rare and colorful illustrated poster promoting "Airplane Rides...Featuring the Boeing Clipper" and "Special Rides" for 50 cents as well as "Long High Rides" for one dollar, all courtesy of Inman Brothers Flying Circus. Signed lower right by William R. Inman. Research indicates that William was likely the son of Rolley Inman, one of the show's founders. Ca 1929.
The Inman Bros. Flying Circus was the largest airplane circus and one of the few to survive the Great Depression. One of their featured performers was "Kitty," a two year old "flying" lion who accompanied the brothers on their flights. A second act was parachute jumper Carl Hall, whose portrait is featured in the advertisement. The show ran until a tragic crash in 1935 that resulted in the death of Donald Inman. He died while trying to rescue a 17-year-old girl in Kansas. She escaped the crash with a broken nose and some internal bleeding.
