Lot of 3, featuring quarter plate tintype of "Sgt. Noah Weeks, Co. F, Twelfth New York Cavalry, 1864," as identified on reverse side of plate, seated with sword in hand. Housed in full thermoplastic "Sir Roger de Coverly and the Gypsies" case (Krainik-30). Accompanied by 2 partially printed appointments, the first, 9.5 x 14.25 in. (sight), appointing Noah Weeks as 1st Sergeant, Co. F, 12th New York Cavalry, issued from Camp Palmer, New Bern, NC, on February 24, 1864, and signed by Colonel James W. Savage, framed, 10.5 x 15.25 in. The second document, 12.5 x 14.5 in. (sight), appoints Noah Weeks as 1st Lieutenant, 132nd New York Infantry, issued from Albany, NY, March 16, 1864, and signed by New York Governor Horatio Seymour, 13.5 x 15.5 in.
Noah Weeks enlisted as a sergeant in New York City in January 1863, mustered into Co. F of the 12th NY Cavalry on April 28, 1863, and was promoted to commissary sergeant the same day. While with the 12th NY Cavalry, Weeks served in the Department and District of North Carolina, 18th Corps. He was discharged for promotion January 1, 1864 and commissioned into the 132nd NY Infantry as a 2nd lieutenant, followed by a promotion to 1st lieutenant in March 1864. The 132nd NY spent nearly its entire term of service in North Carolina, engaged in outpost and garrison duty, and took part in engagements throughout the state, including the battle of New Bern in February 1864, where it suffered its worst losses, as well as the Carolinas Campaign. Weeks mustered out in June 1865 at Salisbury, NC.
