- Lot Description
.72 caliber, 40.875" barrel. Bright finish, brass furniture, iron buttplate, beech stock. Lock marked DANZIG / 1820 the mark of the Prussian arsenal in Danzig (modern day Gdansk Poland). Barrel dated 1820 as well. Prussian proofs, altered to percussion circa 1840s. Prussian unit mark on buttplate. Sling swivels missing, incorrect wood ramrod. Thousands of these obsolete, percussion altered Prussian muskets were sold to US buyers during the early days of the American Civil War, with most seeing service in the Western Theater with mid-western troops, fighting at places like Fort Donelson and Shiloh.
Good. Metal cleaned to a pewter gray with scattered pitting. Barrel slightly short, bore fair. Lock functions on full cock. Clean out screw replaced. Stock with numerous bumps and dings with wood loss around lock and in rammer channel.Condition
