- Lot Description
31" spear point gilt pattern Damascus blade, 38" overall. Brass folding guard with metal grip. Steel scabbard with brass furniture. Blade etched with American eagle with martial themes. Left ricasso marked "W.H. Horstmann & Sons, Philadelphia.", with right ricasso bearing German "kings head" trademark. Gold pommel mount (empty) marked "Lock of Genl. Andrew Jackson's Hair." Scabbard inscribed "Voted to Lieut. P. Burne, of the Burns Tenn. Light Artillery, at the C.O. Fair, Nashville, Tenn. April 10, 1880." between mounts.
Condition
Fair condition. Blade has a gunmetal gray patina with little of the gilding remaining. Guard has a dull patina with tarnishing throughout. Pommel mount empty. Scabbard has significant loss of finish and some dents.
