Collection Notes: My late husband, James W. Duff was a descendant from John Ridge. His mother's name was Edith Hutchinson and her mother was Floral Alice Polson who was a daughter of John Ridge. Alice Polson married Harry R. Hutchinson and Edith was their daughter. Edith married Joseph Warren Dugg and their only child was James Warren Duff. This is how the family came to have these pieces.
John Ridge, Cherokee leader was assassinated in 1839 for his signing of the Treaty of New Echota which lead to the removal of the Cherokees in the "Trail of Tears". He was also a representative for the Cherokee interest in Washington D.C.
