Pottery Face Jars by Wolf
American, 2006. Two pottery jars featuring Maya-inspired designs, both representing different versions of Ixchel, the Moon Maiden: in the first jar, Ixchel is portrayed as a youthful Virgin in a moon quarter; in the second jar, she is represented as a Grandmother enclosed in a full moon, each signed on underside, one numbered 16 and the other 20; taller ht. 22.25 in.
Provenance: The Collection of Dr. John and Shirley Chewning, Cincinnati, Ohio
Several cracks: each jar has a long horizontal crack along the center of the body, and one jar has a long vertical crack (5.5 in.). A few dimples and imperfections to glazes.
