Evening Bulletin. San Francisco: April 13, 1860. 4pp, 27 x 20.5 in.
Featuring page 2 announcement of the arrival of the Pony Express, starting with the first column:
News from the Atlantic in 9 Days! / We had the pleasure of laying before the readers of the "Bulletin," yesterday afternoon, in the form of an extra, news brought from the city of St. Louis, across the continent, in nine days! This unparalleled feat was accomplished by the "Pony Express," which hereafter, it is hoped, will be run regularly.
Column 2 boldly announces the arrival of the "PONY OVERLAND EXPRESS!!," reporting that it came from St. Joseph, MO, via Salt Lake City, Western Utah, and "arrived yesterday afternoon at 3 1/2 o'clock, at Carson City, Western Utah. It brought dates, by telegraph, by St. Louis, Washington, New York, etc. to 3d April, and thus connected the Atlantic and Pacific oceans in the short space of nine days!."
The domestic news delivered by the Pony Express ranged from President Buchanan's protest against the proposed action of the House to inquire into his personal and official conduct, to miscellaneous intelligence, a speech delivered in the US Senate by Mr. Salsbury of Delaware against the extension of slavery, and the House resuming consideration of the Anti-Polygamy bill.
Damp stains and some brittleness to the outer margins.
