Lot Description

Sandburg, Carl. STEICHEN THE PHOTOGRAPHER. New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, (1929). #590 of 925 copies, First and Limited Edition; signed by both the photographer and his brother-in-law, the poet. 9 1/2 by 12 1/2 inches in black cloth with gilt printing to the upper cover and the spine. 49 full page photo illustrations printed in rich photogravure. A beautiful book, the first major monograph devoted to Steichen's work. Roth 54-55, Open Book 86-87, Auer 143.

Condition

Near Fine and fresh condition in the torn remains of the original plain glassine dust jacket, housed in a black board slipcase which is worn and rubbed. Sandburg's signature on the limitation page is strong but slightly smeared.
