Pewter Cupboard in Old Paint
English or Continental, 19th century. A one-piece, pine pewter cupboard in old red-black paint, having a molded cornice above three shelves, shaped sides, and a rectangular server top, over two aligned drawers and an open base with shaped surrounds; ht. 81, wd. 60.5, dp. 16.5 in.Condition
Some restorations and additions, including reinforcements with later nails, screws, and brackets. Surface wear and imperfections as would be expected with age and use, including chips, age splits, and losses. Worming throughout. Some paint wear and losses. Some stains to server top. Front molding of lowest shelf possibly replaced. Losses to left foot and lateral molding. Later wood strip added to fill in a slim gap on left side of upper back. Lower backboards and base board possibly later.
