- Lot Description
13 bore, 30" round barrels, S/N 198. Browned barrels, case hardened breeches and locks, checkered straight-gripped stock and checkered forend. Front action percussion locks marked ALEXR HENRY with delicate boarder-line engraving around the perimeter. Barrel rib engraved: Alex Henry 12 South St. Andrews St. Edinburgh. Marked with London commercial proofs under barrels. Iron mountings with checkered pistol-gripped triggerguard. A shield-shaped German silver escutcheon is on the wrist with an engraved presentation that reads: F. Manson / to / C.H. Barber. Further research may prove fruitful regarding the giver of this fine gift and the recipient. Includes a correct pattern wood ramrod with brass tip and concealed ball puller on the end.
Very good. Retains most of the browned finish which is fading and dulling and mixing with a gently oxidizing patina. Locks with faint traces of case color and a mostly smoky gray patina. Mechanically functional, very good bores are slightly dirty. Stock with scattered bumps and dings and a small area (about 1.5") of loss along the forend at the barrel line on the obverse.Condition
