- Lot Description
.49 caliber, 30" octagonal barrel with hook breech and heavy under rib. Browned finish, walnut half-stock with raised cheek rest and a combination of iron and brass furniture. Back action lock with double set triggers. Fixed rear sight and dovetailed blade front sight. Single stock key (replaced), wood ramrod secured by two iron thimbles and a brass entry pipe. Round iron patchbox crudely inlet in obverse butt. Barrel with two screw holes near breech and marked A WURFFLEIN / PHILA and additionally marked MADE FOR CHS CURRY SAN FRANCISCO. Andrew Wurfflein was a major Philadelphia gun maker, ca 1835-1871 (Sellers) and Charles Curry was a noted gun retailer in San Francisco ca 1852-1863 (Sellers). Any Gold Rush era arms that bear Curry's retailer mark are scarce and desirable collector pieces.
Good. Barrel with an oxidized brown patina, some surface oxidation and pitting. Good bore, mostly bright. Stock good with added finish, a couple of cracks around the lock screw, and chipping around the lock and patchbox. Stock also shows numerous bumps, dings and handling marks.Condition
