Peabody Martini Exhibition Engraved Finished in Gold and Silver with Bayonet
.45 caliber, 33" round barrel, S/N 5. 1400-yard rear barrel sight. Marked on the left side of frame Peabody & Martini Patents/ ManFD By Providence Tool Company Providence RI USA. Very finely engraved by C.F. Ulrich. Engraved in fine scrolls and sea shell designs in the corner of the frame on both sides. Eagle standing on a shield in a panel of the right side of frame. Engraved scrolls on the barrel, around the front and back of rear barrel sight. Frame is marked on the face of the frame with C. F Ulrich in a rectangular box. Frame is finished in gold, bands are in gold, sling swivels are finished in gold. Barrel and lever finished in silver. Highly finished extra figured walnut stock and forearm with two barrel bands. Buttplate is heavy diamond cut with small area of scroll work. Bayonet is full silver plated also engraved bands around the socket on both ends as well on the locking ring. Included with this lot is an admission ticket to the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition.
Lot further includes a 40 page black and white illustrated catalog entitled, The Peabody Martini Rifle Manufactured by the Providence Tool Co. Providence, Rhode Island.
Frame retains most of the gold finish just lightly fading on the left side on the high edges. Barrel retains most of the silver finish lightly oxidizing to black. Engraving on this rifle is of the highest quality. This rifle was made for the Philadelphia Centennial of 1876. Gun companies made the very best to display at the Centennial and other exhibitions. This rifle falls in this category. It is the finest Ulrich-engraved Peabody rifle known.
