Paul Ashbrook was born in New York City and was the pupil of William Merritt Chase. He moved to Cincinnati in 1900 to become the Design Department of the Henderson Lithographic Company, and later worked for Strobridge Lithographic Company. He quickly acquainted himself with the major figures of the art community, and took lessons from Frank Duveneck at the Art Academy, where he also ended up teaching. From the mid 1920s until his death, Ashbrook traveled extensively across Europe and Mexico, where he died in 1949.
