Pattern 1872 Officer's Cavalry Presentation Sword
33.75" curved spear point blade with 24" fuller. Blade with frosty acid etched decorations including flowing foliate scrolls, panoplies of arms, patriotic and martial motifs, a spread-winged American eagle in the center of the obverse and a large US in the center of the reverse in Gothic script. Reverse ricasso etched in four lines: RIDABOCK / & CO / NEW YORK / N.Y. 7" gold gilt hilt, including a large, spread-winged eagle pommel cap, with three branch guard, all chased with patriotic motifs with a classical soldier's face on the top of the pommel cap mount. Grooved grip with white shagreen cover with 11 wraps of fine twisted gilt wire. Nickel-plated scabbard with gold gilt open work mounts and drop with flowing foliate themes. Two suspension rings. Includes associated sword knot.
Fine. Blade with much of the original bright polish and frosty etching remaining, showing some scattered areas of light surface oxidation and minor discoloration. Grip with some loss of gilt and some minor wear to the shagreen wrap. Scabbard fine, with the nickel having taken on a frosty appearance and the mounts retaining most of their gilt. Scabbard shows only some scattered light surface scuffs and scratches and couple of very tiny dings. Sword knot fine with some light wear.Condition
