American, ca 1868. A wood and brass patent model for Henderson's Self-Acting Wagon Brake with a plate inscribed Henderson's Pat Apl 28th 67, housed in a wooden case, the lid with an interior compartment housing copies of instructions for making and applying the brake, the print blocks used to create the illustrations on the instructions, a card to advertise the brake, blank stock shares, blank promise notes payable to S.S. Henderson, an unsigned copy of the patent, dated and numbered April 28, 1868, #77190, and a handwritten note from a family member that previously possessed the piece detailing what is known about its history in the family; case ht. 8.75, wd. 16.5, dp. 8.5 in.
