- Lot Description
.44 caliber rifle/28 gauge shotgun, 30.25" octagonal-to-round barrels, engraved double back-action locks. Engraved frame. Top of upper barrel marked J. HARDER / LOCK HAVEN, PA. Brass furniture with round patchbox and open work decoration, presentation plaque on cheek rest reads in three lines: E.A. Stead / Sheffield, Pa / Sept. 15, 1869 in script.
Jacob Harder worked in PA ca 1838-1888, and was in Lock Haven ca 1860-1888. E.A. Stead could not be located, and is probably worth some additional research.
Fair to good. Metal with a deeply oxidized patina, and surface corrosion. Not mechanically functional, both bores dark and pitted. Brass heavily tarnished. Stock with numerous bumps and dings, mars and a hairline crack through the wrist.Condition
