- Lot Description
Lot includes: 13 Old Abe CDVs; 6 Old Abe stereoviews; large format photo of Old Abe by H.H. Bennett; chromolithograph of famous Union Battle-Flags, including Old Abe; The History of Old Abe pamphlet; Abe the War Eagle booklet; and a 1937 GAR National Encampment badge featuring Old Abe. Most produced for the Centennial Expo. in Philadelphia, 1876.
Old Abe the War Eagle was a bald eagle who became the mascot for the 8th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. During the war, he was in more than 30 battles and became a unifying symbol for the Union Army. After the war, he remained in Wisconsin living at the state capitol.

Abe perched on a perch, very similar to above, on orange mount with J.O. Barrett, Agricultural Building, Centennial Grounds. For the "Old Abe Museum of Ornithology." International Exposition, Philadelphia, 1876.
Abe perched on a cannon, apparently in camp. W.M. Chase, Baltimore, MD.
The large format photo is a cropped view of the same image as the above stereoview (Abe on a cannon), 7.5 x. 10 in. on larger mount, by H.H. Bennett, Wisconsin Dells, WI.
The chromolithograph shows Abe in front of several battle flags - 9th Iowa, Second Kansas Batt'y., Second Wisconsin, Seventh Missouri, Second Kansas Reg't., and First Ohio Batt'y.
