American (attributed to Hamilton County, Ohio), 19th century. A one-piece cupboard in brown paint, having a molded cornice above a single door with nine glazed and three blind panels, the door opening to a green-painted, five shelf interior, over a strip of applied molding and a shaped apron, all rising on cutout feet; ht. 85.75, wd. 36.75, dp. 17 in.
This cupboard is pictured on page 50 of the book Ohio Furniture Makers 1790 to 1845: Volume One by Jane Sikes Hageman. According to family history, it purportedly belonged to William Eichner (American, 1848-1921), a lithographer who worked in Cincinnati between 1870 and 1880.
Provenance: Property from the Collection of Jane D. Diehl, Cincinnati, OH
Some minor surface and edge wear as would be expected with age and use. Door hinges replaced. Small loss to lateral side of front right foot along bottom edge. Interior shelf supports have been re-set/lowered for the middle two shelves. Cornice and lower case molding are probably later additions. A few chips to right side panel along back edge. Glass appears to be original.
