A unique bit of history associated with the creation of the most famous city park in America and the development of urban landscape design.
"This stock is created by virtue of an act of the Legislature of the State of New York, entitled 'An Act for the regulation and government of the Central Park, in the City of New York...'" Stock certificate issued for 5 shares in the amount of $500 payable in 1887 to Ruth H. Brown or her assigns. Stock certificates were issued alongside the launch of a design competition to improve and expand the park, which was ultimately won in 1858 by Calvert Faux and renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead.
