- Lot Description
New England Queen Anne High Chest of Drawers
American (probably Rhode Island), 18th century. A Queen Anne high chest in cherry with mixed secondary woods, the upper case having a molded cornice above five dovetailed and graduated long drawers, the faces thumb-molded and fitted with brass bail handles and escutcheons, the lower case with mid molding over one thumb-molded long drawer and a row of three aligned drawers, the middle drawer embellished with fan carving while the left drawer is dated 1754 on the back, all above a shaped skirt and sides and rising on cabriole legs ending in pad on disc feet; ht. 69.75, wd. 38.75, dp. 20.75 in.Condition
Refinished. Some small patches, mostly to drawer lips. One bail handle detached but present (missing one mount). Cornice with a small chip on left side near front corner. Some small cracks to mid molding. Long drawer of lower section slightly warped and with a small chip to u.r. corner of lip. Some small cracks to tips of feet and backside of front right foot with an old chip. Minor worming to secondary wood of drawers. Bottom of one drawer with a later strip of wood to reinforce an age split.
