- Lot Description
.50 CF, 22" barrel, no S/N. Bright finish, walnut stock with single barrel band. Extremely rare M1870 carbine with only 341 produced ca 1871. High-arch breech block correctly marked 1870/[eagle head]/US/[crossed arrows]. Lock a modified, 1864 dated Civil War musket lock, as is appropriate. Sling bar and ring, correct pattern rear sight. Stock with long wrist/short comb. A solid and correct example of a very scarce carbine that is missing from most Indian War long arm collections.
Good to near very good. Metal with a lightly oxidized pewter patina, with scattered age staining and some minor surface roughness. All marks remain crisp and sharp, mechanically functional, very good bore. Stock with numerous bumps, dings and mars, a 3.5" crack forward of the sling bar and a small chip missing in the same area.Condition
