.69 caliber, 42" barrel, brown finish, walnut stock, three barrel bands. Original flint lock marked W.L. EVANS / EAGLE / V. FORGE forward of the hammer and 1830 / US vertically at the tail of the lock. Matching 1830 date on breech plug tang. Breech inspected LS US over a sunken P proof, with a matching LS (Luther Sage) cartouche on the counterpane. Technically a Model 1828, the final evolution of the M1816 musket, this one was produced during the National Armory Brown period (c1822-1832) and the barrel and furniture are all finished in that manner. Original flint configuration 1816 pattern muskets with period applied brown finish are extremely scarce, as most were altered to percussion during the 1840s-50s and were subsequently struck bright with the brown removed.
