- Lot Description
.69 caliber, 42" round barrel. Bright finish, iron furniture, walnut stock. Lock marked with US over N STARR with sunburst motif. Rear of lock marked MIDDTN/CONN/1832 over an 8-pointed star. Matching 1832 date on barrel tang. Barrel with US / LS / P inspection and proof marks. Stock with crisp JM inspection cartouche on flat. Appears to be original flintlock configuration, with an unmolested touchhole with moderate erosion. Sling swivels, original button head ramrod. Starr delivered approximately 15,500 US M-1816 Type III (M-1828) muskets between 1829 and 1840.
Very good. Metal with a lightly cleaned pewter patina that shows scattered oxidation and discoloration, along with some light pitting and pinpricking. Mechanically functional. Good bore with oxidation. Stock crisp with a fine Justin Murphy cartouche on the flat. Stock shows scattered bumps and dings and a couple of minor chips around the breech plug tang.Condition
