- Lot Description
.69 caliber, 44.75" barrel, bright finish, walnut stock. Iron mounted with spring retained three barrel bands, triggerguard and buttplate, retains both sling swivels. Flat bevelled flint lock with teat marked J HENRY / PHILA to rear and appears to have had markings ground or removed from front. Lock appears to be original flint with integral fenced iron pan, and flat reinforced cock. Barrel with raised P and Eagle Head in an oval proof. Outline of correct pattern, early cartouche on counterpane. Correct pattern iron ramrod, missing threads. Brass blade front sight, socket bayonet lug under barrel near muzzle. Includes an incorrect pattern French M1822 socket bayonet without a locking ring. Henry delivered about 10,000 contract muskets c1808-1814.
Very good. Metal with a deep, dark chocolate patina (bright under bands), and moderate pitting at breech, rest mostly smooth with some scattered light pitting. Good bore, mechanically functional. Stock solid with the highly polished sheen of a 100+ year old banister, with a chip out behind the lock and numerous bumps and dings. Bayonet cleaned with pitting. A nice, representative War of 1812 era musket with a great untouched look.Condition
