Anno Regni Caroli II. Regis Angliae, Scotiae, Francie, & Hibernia. Decimo tertio & quarto. [In the 13th and 14th years of the Reign of Charles II, King of England, Scotland, France & Ireland.] London: Printed by John Bill and Christopher Barker, 1662. "An Act for preventing the Mischiefs and Dangers that may arise by certain Persons called Quakers, and others, refusing to take lawful Oaths." Printed in English Gothic type, 36pp, disbound.
The act notes that as of late, Quakers and others have refused to take an Oath, seeing it as contrary to the word of God, thereby the "... the Administration of Justice [is] much obstructed; And whereas the said persons under a pretence of Religious worship do often assemble themselves in great numbers in several parts of this Realm, to the great endangering of the Publick Peace and Safety, and to the terror of the People, by maintaining a secret and strict correspondence amongst themselves, and in the mean time separating and dividing themselves from the rest of his Majesties good and loyal subjects, and from the Publick Congregations, and usual places of Divine Worship." The act makes such assemblies illegal, with the fine for the first offence being up to five pounds, the second, up to ten pounds. If the fines were not paid, the person could be sent to jail (gaol) for up to three months for the first offence, and five months for the second. And if there is a third offence, then "...it shall and may be lawfull... to cause him, her or them, to be transported in any Ship or Ships, to any of his Majesties Plantations beyond the Seas." An Act to make exiling Quakers legal.
Also included is "An Act for repairing the High-ways and Sewers, and for paving and keeping clean of the Streets, in and about the Cities of London and Westminster,... and for the Regulating and Licensing of Hackney Coaches; and for the enlarging of severall strait and inconvenient Streets and Passages."
Scattered foxing, water damage to upper right corner. Almost no toning. Very readable, in spite of the typeface.
