Canton, Ohio: Printed for the Author by Smith and Bevin, 1838. 154 pp. 6 3/4 by 4 1/2 inches in contemporary marbled boards with cloth spine. A rare item of medical Americana. When Ernie Wessen listed a VG example in his catalogue #15 in 1941 he commented, "A pioneer product the book was crudely bound, without end-papers; enjoyed tremendous popularity, and was literally mauled to destruction. The three copies that have appeared at auction were wrecks. This copy is tight and sound, with very little foxing." The example offered here has had some restoration to the inner hinges but is in nice condition otherwise.
