"Mauriceau, a parisian, was an ordinary surgeon and not a doctor of medicine, but his close observation and detailed studies of the fetus, the pregnant uterus, the female pelvis and the techniques of delivery made him a leading obstetrician of his time. The present work is a compendium of seven hundred case histories dealing with pregnancy and childbirth as well as with the diseases and problems of the newborn. Mauriceau's case histories are models of clear and succinct description, revealing him to be a skilled and experienced practitioner". (Heirs of Hippocrates) also see: Garrison N° 6147.
