Lot Description

Richter, Dr. Adolph Leopold. 40 LITHOGRAPHIRTE TAFELN NEBST ERKLARUNG UND ERLAUTERUNG derselben, zu dem theoretisch-praktischen Handbuche der Lehre von den Brüchen und Verrenkungen der Knochen. Berlin: Enslin, 1828. First Edition. 15 1/4 by 9 3/4 inches oblong, in contemporary 1/2 leather and marbled boards. xxxi pp. text, followed by 40 full page lithographs replete with medical appurtenances, equipment, furniture, etc. Atlas volume only to Richter's work of the same year on the treatment of fractures and dislocations. "The remarkable atlas illustrates . . . all of the various types of dressings, splints, and apparatus used in the treatment of fractures at the time"--Garrison-Morton 4414.1.

Condition

The leather corners and spine heavily abraded and worn, with loss, including chip at head of spine. Closed tear to top margin of the title page. Leaves xx and xxi have separated from the binding and are torn with loss. 3 of the lithos with red ink or crayon? marks. Even with these faults a decent example of a wonderfully detailed medical atlas.
