Lot Description

Cooper, Thomas. A TREATISE OF DOMESTIC MEDICINE, INTENDED FOR FAMILIES; in which the treatment of common disorders are alphabetically enumerated ; to which is added, a practical system of domestic cookery, describing the best, most economical, and most wholesome methods of dressing victuals; intended for the use of families who do not affect magnificence in their style of living. Reading, (Pa.): George Getz, 1824. First Edition. 10 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches in contemporary printed board covers with leather spine. Printed in two columns; the first 23 pages focusing on home medical remedies and the balance on culinary matters including recipes. OCLC notes: "The art of preserving all kinds of animal and vegetable substances" (p. [111]-128) is an excerpt from a translation of Nicolas Appert's L'Art de conserver. - M. Appert's paper was 'published by order of the French Minister of the Interior, on the report of the Board of Arts and Manufactures, made on the 19th April, 1810'". Condition

Upper cover separated; joints and backstrip heavily worn with loss of leather. Contents complete though foxed and toned. Includes the 3 inserted copper plate engravings called for.
