Anonymous. MANUAL OF MILITARY SURGERY PREPARED FOR THE USE OF THE CONFEDERATE STATES ARMY. Richmond: Ayres and Wade, 1863. 7 by 4 1/2 inches in a modern 1/2 leather and marbled boards with the remains of the original backstrip mounted to the spine. 297 pp.; 30 plates. FIRST EDITION. "The official manual of military surgery for the Confederacy, prepared by a group of officers at the order of Confederate Surgeon-General Samuel Preston Moore" (Norman). Not to be confused with another Confederate surgery manual with the same title by John Julian Chisolm. With the early manuscript owner's signature of "F.F. Tabor, M.D. Asst. Surgeon Confederate State: Army April 1863."
