- Lot Description
.58 caliber, 13.5” round barrel, nsn. Bright finish, hardwood stock, brass and iron furniture. Very large, about 19.5” in overall length. Unmarked 5” long flint lock with fenced and bridled brass pan and rounded, reinforced cock. Belgian proofs on breech above touchhole. Brass triggerguard, buttcap and side plate, other mountings of iron with single barrel band and iron ramrod. Bore measures .58 land to land and about .64 groove to groove with deep, four groove rifling. Barrel appears to be a recycled musket barrel. Workmanship and use of “parts on hand” suggest mid-19th century production for trade to Africa or similar locations. A large, solid pistol with a somewhat piratical appearance.
Very good, metal lightly oxidized with scattered surface discoloration and some pinpricking. Brass with a medium golden patina. Mechanically functional, good bore. Wood solid with nicks and dings.Condition
