Depicts three RAF aircraft with an aerial view of green fields below and clouds surrounding the planes.
The No. 40 Squadron of the Royal Airforce was formed in 1916 at Gosport and included both Canadian and Australian Air Force volunteers. The highest scoring ace in the unit from World War I was the Irish-born pilot George McElroy.
