- Lot Description
Lot of 5 photographs of Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948), beloved leader of the Indian independence movement against British rule. Each photograph measures approx. 4.25 x 6 in., on 7.75 x 10 in. mount, no studio imprint. Two identified in red crayon on mount verso. This group of photographs date from a very early period, approx. 1915 when Gandhi returned to India from South Africa, where he had gained an international reputation as a leading Indian nationalist, theorist, and community organizer. These may be previously unpublished images.
Significant wear to photographs, including staining/spotting. Loss to 3 of the mounts. A rare collection nevertheless.Condition
