Albumen photograph of Lotta Crabtree, 1.375 x 2 in., on 2.375 x 4 in. mount promoting the St. Bernard Dollar Store, St. Louis, MO, where one can find "Something New Every Day." With an assortment of products advertised on mount verso, ranging from fine crystal goblets to ladies' and mens' underwear, handkerchiefs, and suspenders.
Lotta Crabtree (1847-1924) was moved from New York to San Francisco at the height of the Gold Rush by her fortune-seeking parents. Young Lotta started singing, dancing, and playing banjo at Gold Rush bars at the age of six, and had become a star known throughout the West by age 16 when she moved back to the East Coast to take on more lucrative stage roles. By the time she retired at the age of 45 she was one of the wealthiest entertainers in America, and upon her death, Lotta's multi-million dollar estate was donated to various children's foundations in keeping with her reputation as the "eternal child."
Even toning to albumen print. Overall very fine condition.
