- Lot Description
Ames flask measure 9.5" x 4.75" and Batty flask measures 10.25" x 4.75". Brass bodies with brass tops and spouts. Top of Ames flask marked "1838" and "N.P. AMES". Spout may be a replacement. Both faces depict federal eagle over circle of twenty-six stars encircling clasping hands over a sunburst, all over a panoply of arms with "US" in shield. Batty flask marked "1850" and "BATTY" with "ADK" inspector mark. Both faces depict federal eagle over circle of nineteen stars encircling clasping hands over a sunburst, all over a panoply of arms with "US" in shield. Both flasks have triangular carrying rings.
Both flasks are pictured on page 362 as numbers 857 and 861 in Ray Riling's The Powder Flask Book.Good. Flasks have a brass to bronze color with some darkening overall. Some verdigris on lids with springs functioning normally. Markings are legible but verdigris can be removed for more clarity. Batty shows some repair markings on seam.Condition
