Lot Description

Twain, Mark. ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN. New York: Charles L. Webster and Company, 1885. 8 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches in the original gilt and black stamped pictorial green cloth. First Edition, mixed issue, with the following points: cloth not visible in frontis; page 9, "decided; "page 88 "him and another man;" page 57 "with the 'was';" page 143, "l" is present and line 7 "b" is broken in body; page 155, all present, 2nd "5" in larger font; page 161, no signature mark "11." BAL 3415.

Condition

With professional restoration to the head and tail of the spine and corners; professional reinforcement to binding at inner front hinge. Modern previous owner gift inscription to front pastedown. Couple spots of discoloration to upper cover; gilt fairly bright on upper cover, less so at the spine. Occasional mark or spot of foxing internally but generally quite clean. Small "closed nick" to bottom of leaf 177/178. In all a rather attractive example of this "Great American Novel."
