- Lot Description
Lot of 2 printed orders, both 8 x 10 in., with black mourning borders, issued from "Head Quarters, Twenty-Second Regiment, NGSNY, 'C' Co.," New York. April 15 and April 20, 1865.
The first announces the death of President Lincoln to the troops and cancels the following Wednesday's drill to allow soldiers to mourn. The second gives orders for Company "D," 22nd Regiment New York National Guard, to "assist in rendering appropriate honors to the remains of that Illustrious Patriot, whose loss . . . the Nation now deplores." Both signed in print by Commanding Captain, William J.A. M'Grath.
Condition
Typical folds and some ghosting of the ink.
Missing wooden stands.
