Leo Moore began creating wood carvings after a trip to his hometown of Lawton, Oklahoma where he saw industrialization replacing the idyllic landscape of his memory. He removed boards from old buildings and began to carve scenes from his childhood. Initially untrained, he later pursued artistic training through evening and weekend classes at the Art League School (Alexandria, VA), the Corcoran School of Art and at the Smithsonian. He was a member of the Art League of Virginia and the Northern Virginia Woodcarvers Association.
