.45-70 caliber, 32.625" barrel retained by two barrel bands, no S/N. Blued finish, smooth straight-gripped walnut stock. Receiver tang marked U.S. / PAT. MAR. 16th 1875 . No proofs on barrel, fine script ESA cartouche on reverse wrist. US M1873 pattern rear sight, graduated to 11 , musket-style front sight/bayonet lug. 1873 pattern flat faced jag head cleaning rod, retains both sling swivels and stacking swivel. These very scarce rifles designed by James Paris Lee utilized a Martini style dropping block action. Only 143 were produced circa 1875, making these one of the rarest of the US martial rifles from the Indian Wars period.
