- Lot Description
Gen. Taylor's Rough and Ready Almanac 1848. Boston: James Fischer, ca 1847. 36pp, 5 x 8 in. Including month by month descriptions of regional astronomical data as well as "Various Phenomena," and featuring a biography of then Major General Zachary Taylor, soon to be President of the United States, along with detailed descriptions and vividly illustrated woodcuts of battles that took place during the Mexican War including the Battles of Monterey and Sacramento, among others.
Almost certainly produced to exalt the candidacy of Zachary Taylor during the 1848 US Presidential Election.
Condition
Front cover is heavily soiled. Some soiling on interior pages and tattered, chipped edges. Thread binding is coming loose. Top right corner of front page appears to have been cut. Several back pages with creased corners.
