Kentucky Secretary Bookcase
American (Kentucky), ca 1800-1815. A secretary bookcase in cherry with poplar secondary, the upper case having a molded cornice and a frieze band of crotch veneer over two doors with sunken panels opening to a four-shelf interior (two adjustable), the lower dovetailed case having a slanted fall front opening to an interior fitted with eight pigeonholes and six drawers, over four dovetailed, graduated, and cockbeaded drawers, the whole above a shaped skirt and rising on French feet; ht. 97.5, wd. 45.25, dp. 21.5 in.
Some light age cracks to veneer below cornice. Small veneer patch near back, lower edge of the bottom right side panel. One pigeon hole valence detached. Slant top hinges possibly replaced. Drawer glides and some interior supports restored. Small age split to upper left corner of slant top exterior. Expected wear to feet.
