Kentucky Inlaid Chest of Drawers in Original Finish
American (Kentucky), late 18th-early 19th century. A chest of drawers in walnut with oak and poplar secondary, retaining its original finish, having a rectangular top above four graduated and dovetailed drawers, the fronts decorated with lightwood line inlay and fitted with brass pulls, the case having chamfered corners inlaid with bellflowers, all over a shaped apron and rising on flared French feet; ht. 37.25, wd. 41.5, dp. 18.75 in.
This four-drawer chest was exhibited at the Headley-Whitney Museum in Lexington, Kentucky as part of the exhibition Fancy Forms and Flowers: A Significant Group of Inlaid Kentucky Furniture, which took place February 6-April 16, 2000.
Provenance: Formerly the property of Helen Glore Bogard (1938-2011) whose grandmother, Hester Bryant Glore (1878-1956), was a descendent of the Bryants who settled and founded Bryantsville, formerly Smith's Station, in Garrard County Kentucky.
Missing a couple pull handles. The interior of one drawer painted. Some veneer repairs and losses. Some repairs to feet and apron.
