- Lot Description
Howe, Julia Ward (1819-1910). Author, suffragette, dramatist, poet, and biographer, best remembered as the lyricist of "Battle Hymn of the Republic." AQS, "Julia Ward Howe," below the first verse of the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," 1p, 4.75 x 8.5 in., June 1908. Matted and framed, 9.5 x 13 in. Ward pens the opening four lines, in full:
"Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord:
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored,
He hath bound the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword:
His truth is marching on."
In very good to fine condition, with very slight discoloration at corners. Not examined outside frame. Accompanied by RR Auction certificate of authenticity.Condition
