Johnson and Ward. Johnson's New Military Map of the United States Showing the Forts, Military Posts, &c. with Enlarged Plains of Southern Harbors. New York: Johnson & Browning, copyright date of 1861, but published ca 1863. Hand-colored map, 26.25 x 18 in.
A desirable Civil War-period map presenting the state and territory borders, including the large western territories of Dakota, which incorporates what is present-day Montana and part of Wyoming, Nebraska with its western border on Washington and Utah, Washington encompassing present-day Idaho, Nevada, and Arizona, which is located below New Mexico Territory. The map also identifies several military forts. With nine inset plans of major towns and harbors such as Hampton Roads, Charleston Harbor, Key West, Baltimore, and Washington at right and bottom.

Even toning, few spots. Few small chips along perimeter.
