Included is a copy of a letter written by Jim Kewanetewa to the collectors of this katsina, dated March 12, 1962:
Dear Sir and Mam,
I am writing I have not at home for about a month and found a letter. stating that you wanted a Black Orker doll about 19 inches but than the one I have already partly carved. so I fixed him up to sending it to you. rather 14 inches. so charg $2500 dollar. 12 inch my cost $2000 and Black Oker the other are not carve legs. and arms well they cost less differen kink. from eight inch up. some cost 8.00 to 16.00 it differed. detail work not so much detail work cost less. besid it hard to find the type of work cottonwood roots. I will be very glad to see you some day and talk with you.Sincerlly yours,
